KABUL (WJ) or lower house of parliament said on Saturday that election for the house should be held on due date and the government introduce the remaining cabinet picks without further delay.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of 16th term of Afghan Parliament, which entered its fifth year, Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi said efforts were needed to reform the electoral system.
According to article 83 of the constitution, the work period of the Wolesi Jirga ends on June 22. The article also said the election for the Wolesi Jirga begins one or two months ahead of the period of the house ends.
Talking to the opening ceremony of the final or fifth year of the 16th term of Parliament, he said security challenges continued posing a threat after the formation of unity government.
He stressed on government to take people into confidence on the progress of peace process.
The government, he noted should prioritize peace process in its agenda and the draft in this regard should be sent to the parliament for approval.
Before the winter recess, the government introduced 25 picks for cabinet and leaders of two independent departments including Da Afghanistan) to Wolesi Jirga, with only nine of them won the trust vote of lawmakers.
President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani inaugurated the 16th term of Afghan Parliament, which entered its fifth year. The winter recess of lawmakers had started on January 28, 2015.
