MAIMANA/FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): Three civilians and two volunteers have been killed in north and western parts of the country, officials said on Saturday.
Two pro-government civilians were killed and a third wounded during a clash with Taliban in the Khwaja Sabz Posh district of northwestern Faryab province, a security official told Pajhwok Afghan News.
But National Directorate of Security (NDS) Director Col. Mohammad Naeem Andarabi confirmed the killing of only one volunteer during the fight.
He said the militants had also blocked the Faryab-Badghis highway by planting landmines in the Qaisar district, posing a serious threat to commuters.
On the other hand, Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi claimed four policemen were killed, six, others wounded and two motorcycles seized in the Khwaja Sabz Posh clash.
He also claimed killing one police official in Almar district. But the NDS director said the individual killed by Taliban was a civilian.
Separately, two civilian were killed during a rebel attack on a police check-post in the area between Shahrak and Dolina district in western Ghor province. Source said police abandoned the check-post during the attack.
