Herat security on the mend, claim public reps

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Herat provincial council members on Saturday said the law and order situation has significantly improved in recent weeks.

Speaking at a meeting on the security situation, the provincial council head said four month back Herat used to witness violent incidents on a daily basis.

But the overall situation had improved lately, Kamran Ali Rezaee noted, praising acting police chief Maj. Gen. Abdul Majid Rozi’s performance.

He said police had made many achievements by arresting an 8-member kidnapping gang, 15 smugglers, 21 thieves, six murderers, and two terrorists.

PC member Mohammad Mahdi Hadid also lauded the police performance, saying they had given the criminals a tough time.

Sumaya Walizada, a Herat resident, acknowledged: “Recently the security situation has improved. We hope the measures that the police have taken are for long-term.”

Wahid Samadi, another resident, said the government should end impunity for criminals and kidnappers and deal with them sternly.
