TALOQAN (Pajhwok): Officials in northern Takhar province on Saturday said a woman had committed suicide in Taloqan, the provincial capital.
Sunatullah Timoor, the governor’s spokesperson, told Pajhwok Afghan News the 25-year-old woman died after consuming pesticide. She is survived by two children.
Police have started an investigation to ascertain why she took the extreme step, her spouse said.
Dr. Karamuddin, the director of Takhar Civil Hospital, said the woman, Pari Gul, had been brought to hospital three days back in critical condition and passed away on Friday night.
Based on media reports, at least 21 women committed suicide last year in the province.
