KABUL (Pajhwok): Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah on Friday urged Kabul citizens to participate in an ongoing plantation campaign in the central capital.
Planting a sapling in the diplomatic district of Wazir Akbar Khan, the CEO said trees were central to efforts at creating more green areas and keeping the environment clean.
Abdullah said: “Plantation has been an old tradition in our country, but in the situations we are in today, planting trees, particularly in Kabul, has become an imperative.”
Referring to the alarming problem of pollution in the central capital, the CEO said the tree plantation campaign had become a national duty for the Afghans.
Agriculture ministry and environment protection agency officials say 32 million saplings will be planted across the country as part of the ongoing drive.
