70pc of Afghans have trust in police, claims MoI

MAIMANA (Pajhwok): The deputy interior minister on Wednesday claimed that around 70 per cent of the people were satisfied with police performance.

Lt. Gen. Ikramuddin Yawar told journalists in northern Faryab province police had won people’s trust and in the next two year’s they would get world class training

“Only guns cannot heal our nation. Thus we want to strengthen the rule of law and win people’s trust for a better Afghanistan,” the official said.

International Security Assistance Force (ISAF)’s combat mission ended on December 31, 2014 and Afghan security forces have since taken the lead.

MoI’s evaluations showed police in Faryab have improved a lot, as compared with previous years in counter-terrorism, counter-narcotics and law-enforcement operations.

Faryab has been among the insecure provinces because of intensifying insurgents activities. Officials, however, claim their regular operations have kept fighters them at bay, opening the way for development and reconstruction.
