TALOQAN (Pajhwok): Tajikistan’s security forces shot dead an Afghan civilian after he illegally crossed the border through Amu River, an official of northern Takhar province said on Saturday.
Two civilians from Darqad district had unlawfully entered Tajikistan, Sunnatullah Taimoor, the governor’s spokesperson, confirmed to Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said Tajikistan’s border guards shot dead one Afghan while the second managed to escape unhurt. The victim’s dead would be handed over to Afghan forces, he added.
There are reports that drugs are smuggled to Central Asia through Amu River from Dasht Kala, Darqad, Chah-i-Aab and Yangi Kala districts.
Tajikistan’s border security forces killed 10 residents of Takhar in last one year for crossing the border illegally. Their dead bodies were delivered to Afghanistan.
