JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Four persons were killed and 14 others, including two Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers, wounded when a suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden car into foregin forces’ convoy in Jalalabad City, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, on Friday, a security official said.

Maj. Mohammad Amin, a senior Afghan National Army (ANA) officer at the Nangarhar Airport, told Pajhwok Afghan News the attack was carried out through a Corolla car at around 10: 00 am.

A vehicle of foreign forces completely damaged in the blast, he said, adding, however, foreign service members remained unhurt in the attack.

Two ANA soldiers, he confirmed suffered injuries who were on duty at a security check post close to the site of the explosion, he added. Civilians suffered fatalities in the incident but he had no exact figure.

Dr. Najibullah Kamawal, director Nangarhar Civil Hospital, confirmed receiving four dead bodies and 12 wounded. He said three of wounded were in critical condition. 

Noorullah, a shopkeeper, said that a number of vehicles parked inside and outside car bargain centres were damaged in the balst.

Claiming credit for the attack, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said that two armored vehicles were completely damaged with all onboard foreign forces' personnel dead in the blast.

Soon after the incident, President Ashraf Ghani condemned the blast in strongest possible words and said: "It was the handiwork of anti-Islam and Afghans enemy," a statement from the Presidential Palace said.
