KABUL (Pajhwok): The man, who drove a car over Farkhunda, has been arrested from central Kapisa province after a manhunt that lasted 32 days, the spy agency said on Wednesday.
In a statement, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) said the detainee was a resident of Kabul and currently held at the agency’s detention facility.
It said the detainee mercilessly crushed the 27-year-old under his car until she died.
Farkhunda was subjected to mob violence on the accusation that she burnt a copy of the Quran, a charge that latter appeared to be false.
She was brutally killed near a well-known shrine in the heart of Kabul.
Police had so far detained 49 suspects in connection with the broad daylight lynching. The detainees include 19 police officials.
The Attorney General’s Office has said 18 attorneys have been tasked with investigating the case, which is expected to be referred to the apex court next week.
