ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Five civilians were killed on Wednesday when the vehicle they were travelling in struck a roadside bomb in southwestern Nimroz province, an official said.
The passengers were on their way to Zaranj, the provincial capital, when their vehicle hit the hidden bomb in Gul Bahri locality of the Khashrud district in the afternoon, the district chief, Mohammad Hashim Noorzai, said.
He said the dead included a woman, a seven-year-old child and three men and a second child was wounded in the blast.
Separately, five Taliban militants were killed and three others wounded during a clash with security forces in the Zarbaloch locality of the district.
Provincial police chief Brig. Gen. Mangal Bagh said the clash that broke out early in the morning was still ongoing. He said security forces had suffered no casualties so far.
