KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): One hundred and eighteen pistols were on Saturday handed over the Disarmament of Illegal Armed Groups (DIAG) programme in southern Kandahar province, an official said.
The pistols, including 16 Makarov’s and 102 TT brand, had been confiscated by police during their operations in the Ghorak district, the deputy Kandahar police chief, Col. Rahmatullah Atrafi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said insurgents had dispatched the guns from across the border in Pakistan, but police confiscated them. The guns could have been used in target killings and other terrorist activities.
DIAG official in the south, Gen. Abdul Qayum Popal, told Pajhwok Afghan News the pistols would be placed in the regional’s arms depot and given to the security department concerned after an examination.
He said the Kandahar police had confiscated a large number of weapons during operations and had surrendered them to DIAG.
