FAIZABAD/ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Taliban) in northeastern Badakhshan province, an official said on Thursday.
An intelligence official, who wished to go unnamed, told Pajhwok Afghan News Col. Anwar Baig, the district intelligence chief, was shot dead on his way home.
Soon after the attack, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the killing.
Elsewhere, two individuals have been detained in connection with an attack on a government employee in Nimroz, police chief Brig. Gen. Dilawar Shah Dilawar said.
The attackers had been arrested Wednesday night with pistols and pamphlets. The detained individuals belonged to Farah province who were planning to assassinate some senior officials.
