LASHKARGAH/ GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): At least three civilians were killed in two different incidents of violence in southern Helmand southern Ghazni provincs, officials said on Saturday.

Musa Qala district chief Mohammad Sharif Khan told Pajhwok Afghan News two women and security forces on Friday night in Ghar Tali area in southern Helmand.

He claimed inflicting heavy casualties on Taliban but he had no exact figures.

But Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed eight security forces and one militant had been killed and four security forces and two militants wounded when Taliban stormed police check post.

Meanwhile, Col. Abdul Malik Hassani, director counternarcotics in southern Helmand province, said police had seized 240 kilograms of opium. Six persons were also apprehended after a gun battle between police and smugglers, he added.

“The detained men want to smuggle opium to Pakistan in a vehicle,” he said, adding that the arrested persons had been handed over to judicial organs. 

Separately, Shafiq Nang, the spokesman for the Ghazni governor, said unidentified persons killed the son of former director of governor’s office, Owais Munib.

“The armed men have killed Owais Munib’s son with silencer pistol and then fled the scene,” he said, adding Munib’s son did not have any government job but he had a shop in third police district area.
