MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Afghanistan’s 96th Independence Day was marked with series of events marking the day on Wednesday in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province.
A number of leading personalities, government officials, civil society activists, provincial council members, elders, and university students participated in the event.
The caravan of vehicles was heading amid freedom chants by participants, playing national anthem and songs loudly to express happiness.
Deputy Provincial Council head Zabihullah Kakar laid floral wreath at around 9: 00 am morning on Mazar-i-Sharif shrine and formally launched celebrations of the day in the province.
Ghulam Rasool Malakzada, Balkh literary society member, told Pajhwok Afghan News that celebrations of the Independence Day gave message of freedom for the new generation and creates sense of freedom among youth.
