KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): A couple has been killed during an operation by Special Forces in the Gurbaz district of southeastern Khost province, an official claimed on Sunday.
Also known as Campaign troops in the local parlance, the forces stormed the couple’s house last night and killed them, the district’s administrative chief told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Mohammad Akbar Zadran quoted locals as saying the man and his wife offered no resistance. Officials had reached the area to investigate the incident, the district chief said.
Deputy Governor Abdul Wahid Patan acknowledged the civilian killings, without saying who had conducted the search operation or what its objective was.
“Yes, a man and a woman have been killed. We have launched a probe to ascertain who carried out the raid and what for,” he said, giving no further details.
Resident Mohammadullah blamed the raiding party for killing the couple, destroying their car and damaging other household items. He insisted the family did not have links with any political or militant group.
The Special Forces, operating in the framework of the National Directorate of Security (the Afghan intelligence service) has not yet commented on the incident.
