KABUL (Pajhwok): The government of Japan has donated four snow-clearing and road construction machines to the Public Works Department of central Logar province, an official said Wednesday.
Logar Public Works Director Abdul Wali Stanikzai told Pajhwok Afghan News the machines they received included a loader, an excavator, a grader and a dumper.
He said the machines worth $470,000 would be used for clearing snow from roads and road’s asphalting proposes.
The Logar public works department did not have such advanced machines before, Stanikzai said.
Governor Mohammad Halim Fidai thanked Japan for the delivery and said the Public Works Department should utilise the machines in the service of the people.
Winters in Logar are snowy often causing traffic accidents.
Meanwhile, The Agriculture Department of northwestern Faryab province received four tractors from the French Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development (ACTED).
Faryab Agriculture Director Assadullah Bahar said the total value of the tractors was $52,000 and were distributed to farmer cooperatives in Balcharagh, Kohistan, Garziwan and Qaisar districts.
He said the tractors were effective in promoting agricultural production and mechanising agricultural activities.
