KABUL (Pajhwok): Pakistani police and other security forces have arrested over 40 Afghan nationals residing around an airbase in the capital of southwestern Balochistan province, a media report said on Wednesday.
The Afghans said to be illegally residing an area around Khalid Airbase in Quetta were apprehended during a search operation as part of a crackdown on militants and criminal elements following the attack on a Pakistan Airforce (PAF) base in northwestern city of Peshawar, Dawn.com reported.
“They were handed over to the authorities concerned for investigation,” police were quoted as claiming.
The attack on Badbher Airforce camp near Peshawar left 29 people dead including civilians and military personnel.
The Pakistani military and government had alleged the attack was planned and controlled from Afghanistan, an allegation the Kabul administration strongly rejected.
President Ashraf Ghani a day earlier phoned Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and condemned the attack after Islamabad decided against lodging a strong protest with Kabul over the assault.
