KABUL Governors Association (AGA) on Sunday slammed the dismissal of Kunduz Governor Mohammad Umar Safi as unjust before the completion of an ongoing investigation into the fall of the provincial capital.
The AGA, however, praised the government’s decision to investigate the Taliban’s capture of Kunduz City on the night between Sunday and Monday after a few hours of clashes with security forces.
Earlier, Interior Ministry spokesmanSediq Siddiquitold Pajhwok Afghan News the security forces launched a special operation on Wednesday night to drive militants from the city. The security forces took control of the entire city during the operation that continued until 3:30am.
The AGA asked the government to punish those whose negligence led to the fall of Kunduz. Reportsindicate during their siege of Kunduz the fighters looted the state treasury and public property.
The Taliban, however, rejected the reports as baseless and untrue.
