Taliban court orders elderly man executed in Jawzjan

SHIBERGHAN/MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Insurgents on Monday executed an old man after a Kangaroo court sentenced him to death in northern Jawzjan province, police said.

Col. Abdul Hafiz Khashi, Jawzjan deputy police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the insurgents had snatched Mohammad Amin, 70, and his son from a vehicle in Dawlat Abad district of Balkh province and shifted them to Manjigak district of Jawzjan.

Later, he said, the two were brought to Qorchenghoi locality of Manjigak where the father was gunned down after a trial.

He said the Taliban killed Mohammad Amin because he was relative of a public uprising commander. Amin himself was a local elder and had no links with the government, he said.

The police official said Amin’s son was still in Taliban’s captivity and elders were trying to secure his release.

A resident of Qorchenghoi locality, who did want to be named, said: “We are in dire conditions. Taliban pass through our village regularly and they beat people on several excuses like cooperation with the government and uprisings.”

Taliban have not commented on the issue yet.
