JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Two officials of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) were killed and six others wounded in a bomb blast in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, on Monday.

Provincial police spokesman Col. Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal told Pajhwok Afghan News that the explosion took place in the Roshani Meni area of the forth police district at around 8:30am.

He said that two officers of the provincial branch of AIHRC were killed and six others wounded when the vehicle they were travelling in struck the bomb.

AIHRC Director in Jalalabad Qasim Pacha confirmed the blast and casualties. However, he stopped short of blaming anyone for the bomb attack.

Pajhwok Afghan News photographer Babrak Amirzada saw five wounded people, including a woman, at the site. He said the attack targeted security guards of the commission.

Public Health Director Dr. Najibullah Kamawal confirmed two bodies and six injured people were evacuated to the main provincial hospital. The condition of three of the injured was critical, he said.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
