We should learn from the past, says Abdullah

KABUL (Pajhwok): Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah on Sunday rejected concerns that the unity government was making a programme for insecurity in the country, saying actually the regime had been unable to timely convey its message to the masses.

Speaking at the 5^th national conference of development councils on village level, the CEO said the unity government committed to strengthening security understood that security threats remained the people’s major concern.

He said the government’s commitment to improving security should not come under question as he admitted to challenges and shortcomings in implementing government’s pledges.

“The concerns that the government is preparing a progreamme to destabilise the country are not right. In fact the government has been unable to convey its message to the people in-time.”

“Questions sometimes arise in people’s mind about the government’s making of insecurity programme, but only the enemies of Afghanistan, who kill and don’t let Afghanistan to be reconstructed, benefit from the subject.”

Abdullah said they should learn from the past and prove their determination to the people.

The CEO stressed the need for unity at a time when the country was deprived of development and tranquility for decades.

Addressing the participants, Abdullah said members of village councils could play a vital role for peace and stability besides implementing development and other projects.

He added sometimes people complained about low quality construction works, but such trends should be prevented.

He said those responsible for executing projects should give a priority to quality work as schemes being implemented in their localities should be considered their own.

He said the UN, declaring the next decade as the decade of sustainable development, had urged its member states in recent summits to giver proper attention to execution of development projects in their countries.

As many as 35,000 development councils on village level have been created during the past 14 years and multiple development projects have been completed so far through the bodies.
