JALALABAD (Pajhwok): New security check-post would be established in the Achin district of eastern Nangarhar province, where a clearing operation was underway to flush out militants, an official said on Wednesday.
Haji Ghalib Mujahid, the district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the operation was ongoing in JanjalShagi locality. Afghan Special Forceswere also taking part in the offensive.
“Most parts of the district had been cleared. New check-posts are being established and heavy causalities have been inflicted on the insurgents,” he claimed, hoping the situation in Achin would improve.
According to Mujahid, five new check-posts had already been established in Abdulkhel and Kashtalareas while more were in the process of being set up in other localities.
On the other hand, Nangarhar police spokesman Col. Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal said besides the construction of new posts, they had also rehabilitated some old checkpoints in the area.
As many as 600 people had risen up against the insurgents in the area and some of them have been recruited into the Afghan Local Police (ALP).
Naveed Shinwari, resident of the locality, voiced confidence that an increase in the number of security check-posts would have a positive impact in the overall situation.
Recently, a contingent of 1,000 ALP personnel was approved for Nangarhar and most of them would be deployed to restive parts of the Shinwari zone.
