JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A district chief escaped unhurt in a bomb blast that killed one child and wounded four others in eastern Nangarhar province on Monday, an official said.
The bomb attack, which took place in the Banda area of Behsud district at about 9am, apparently targeted Abdul Wahab Momand, administrative head of Kama town, but he survived.
Nangarhar police spokesman Col. Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal told Pajhwok Afghan News that bomb attached to a motorbike went off when the district chief was passing through the village.
As a result of the explosion, one child was killed and four others sustained injuries, according to the police spokesman, who gave no further details. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
Malik Wilayat Khan, a tribal elder from the area, confirmed the incident and casualties. The blast happened in front of the children’s houses, he said, giving an eyewitness account.
Amirzada Babrak, Pajhwok Afghan News photographer, reported from the site that a girls’ school is situated 100 metres from the scene. Scared by the blast, the schoolchildren ran pell-mell and some of them were slightly wounded,
