NEW DELHI (Pajhwok): India has reiterated its strong commitment and support for a united, sovereign, democratic, stable and prosperous Afghanistan.
The pledge was reiterated by Indian interlocutors of Afghanistan’s National Security Advisor Hanif Atmar who visited New Delhi from November 8-9 at the invitation of his Indian counterpart Ajit K. Doval, officials said.
Apart from holding talks with Doval, Atmar called on Defence Minister, met Foreign Secretary Dr. S. Jaishankar and attended a discussion in the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses.
“Interlocutors of Atmar reiterated India’s strong commitment and support for a united, sovereign, democratic, stable and prosperous Afghanistan,” India’s Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.
Atmar conveyed appreciation of his country’s leadership, its government and the Afghan people for reliable and predictable assistance from India.
During the visit, the two sides discussed various aspects of regional security, particularly terrorism which threatens peace and stability of the region.
“They also discussed ways and means to enhance cooperation between India and Afghanistan to strengthen the latter’s defence capabilities for safeguarding its security and combating all forms of terrorism,” read the statement.
