NATO to consider sharing intelligence with Afghan forces

KABUL foreign ministers are expected approve important measures in support of Afghan security forces, a German media outlet reported on Saturday.

Afghanistan would be on the agenda of the meeting, scheduled for December 1-2 in Brussels, a spokesman for the alliance said, without going into details of the agenda.

The DPA, quoting an unnamed diplomatic source, said NATO might step up support to Afghan forces. The alliance is said to have approved a classified report prepared for upcoming meeting.

In the secret report, NATO has agreedto explore the possibility of sharing intelligence with Afghan forces to help prevent incidents such as spectacular Taliban attacks in recent weeks.

More NATO trainers may be deployed in the conflict-hit areas of Afghanistan. “Protection in an emergency would be provided by alliance airstrikes,” the report added.

Members are expected to promise troop contributions to all ongoing missionsduring a meeting on Wednesday and Thursday at NATO's military headquarters in Mons, Belgium.

The current training and support mission, Resolute Support, features 13,000 troops, with combat activity confined to self-defence.
