1 killed as IEC official survives Kabul suicide attack

KABUL) survived but one of his bodyguards was killed a suicide attack in Kabul on Saturday, an official said.

Faridoon Ubaidi, crime branch head of the 101st Asmayee Police Zone, told Pajhwok Afghan News the suicide bomber targeted the vehicle of regional IEC chief Awal Rahman Rodwal in Shahra Telayee area of Karta-i-Naw locality.

The incident took place at 7am when Rodwal was leaving his home and getting into his vehicle. The IEC official survived the attack but one of his bodyguards was killed. His driver and a woman were wounded, Ubaidi said.

He added an investigation into the incident was underway and more details would be released later on.

Meanwhile, IEC spokesman Noor Mohammad Noor also confirmed the attack, saying that Rodwal had escaped unhurt in the incident.

Giving an eyewitness account, Shafiq Safi saidhe had seen a dead body and two people in wounded condition.No groups so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
