QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): Nearly a dozen men gang-raped a nine years old girl in the Jawand district of northwestern Badghis province more than a week ago, officials said on Tuesday.
A member of the provincial council from the district, Farid Akhizai, told Pajhwok Afghan News the 11 rapists included four policemen and seven illegal gunmen, who sexually assaulted the minor girl 10 days ago in Piraji village.
“The victim is being treated by a local doctor and her condition is said to be stable,” the public representative said. He added the orphan girl was later married off to a man in return for 750,000 afghanis by an illegal armed group.
The mother and grandmother of the victim on Monday came to Qala-i-Naw, the provincial capital, and registered their complaint with the provincial council and police headquarters about the incident.
Provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Abdul Rauf Taj confirmed the gang rape, but said the perpetrators did not include policemen. He added nearly seven illegal gunmen had raped the girl.
Taj said no one had so far been arrested in connection with the incident, which was jointly being investigated by police and tribal elders.
