The president issued the orders during his Sunday’s visit to Jalalabad where he laid a floral wreath on the tomb of Ghazi Amanullah Khan and offered fateha. The president also inspected the adjacent mosque.
A statement from the Presidential Palace said after offering fateha at the mausoleum, President Ghani directed the Ministry of Information and Culture and Nangarhar officials to appoint a professional assessment team for the reconstruction of the mazar and the mosque as soon as possible.
The mausoleums of Khan, Amir Habibullah Khan, Queen Surya and Princess Shafiqa Seraj were built in 1960. The body of Amanullah Khan, who died in Zurich in 1960, was brought back by the country's last king Zahir Shah, and buried in Amir Shaheed gardens near the governor's office in Jalalabad.
