FAIZABAD/KABUL (Pajhwok): A drug laboratory has been destroyed and more than a tonne of heroin seized during an operation by the National Interdiction UnitInterior in the northeastern province of Badakhshan, officials said on Wednesday.
The Ministry of Interior unit also recovered at least 1,500 litres of morphine during the overnight operation in Darayem district, the provincial crime branch chief, Col. Musadiqullah Muzaffari, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Meanwhile, a statement from MoIsaid 1,000 kilograms of heroin, 1500 litres of morphine, 30 litres of acid and 20kg of carbons were also recovered by the NIU personnel.
The factory in Torgani village, having a press machine, 10 bet pots, six gas cylinders, a power generator, a 300-metre pipe, a heavy metal pot, a stove, a scale and a big jug, was destroyed in the raid involving four helicopters.
A suspect was detained and two weapons belonging to the owner of the factory were recovered during the operation, the statement concluded.
