KUNDUZ CITY/ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Local security officials on Thursday said a female university student, kidnapped by unidentified men, has been rescued by police in northeastern Kunduz province.
Elsewhere, an Iranian national, who wanted to join militants, was arrested in southwestern Nimroz province.
Kunduz police chief, Brig. Gen. Mohammad Qasim Jangalbagh, told Pajhwok Afghan News the 18 years old girl, a resident of Ghazni province, had been kidnapped in Kabul.
She had been seized while returning home from the Kabul University a few days ago, he said, adding the crime branch police had detained two suspects in connection with the kidnapping in Aliabad district on Wednesday.
A video clip received by Pajhwok Afghan News shows the female student being handed over to her father, and two alleged kidnappers, with their hands tied. The detainees are currently under investigation.
Without giving her name, the girl said: “Unknown men put a handkerchief on my nose. I don’t know what happened after that. Later, I found myself in Kunduz with two men,
“The men asked to tell police that one of them is my father. When we arrived at a check-post, police suspected the men and detained both of them,” she added.
According to another report an Iranian national was detained by police in Nimroz province. Police chief, Brig. Gen. Dilawar Shah Dilawar, said that the man wanted to travel to Helmand to join militants there.
Mujtaba, son of Hasan Bakr, a resident of Kerman city, was detained was detained in Zaranj, the provincial capital, on Wednesday night. He was produced in court today.
In a separate incident, police found the body of a 30 years old man in Zaranj on Wednesday night. A security official said the man had been shot twice. He suspected kidnappers were involvement in the incident.
