643 projects worth $16m to be executed in Khost

KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Rural Rehabilitation and Development Minister Nasir Ahmad Durrani on Thursday said his ministry planned to carry out 643 development projects at a cost of $16 million in southeastern Khost province next solar year.

Addressing a gathering of tribal elders, religious scholars and development councils members, the minister said the 643 projects included bridges, water heads, retaining walls, water reservoirs, link roads and other small projects to be executed in different districts of the province.

He said the projects would $16.3 million and would be implemented in line with demands by Khost people.

In addition to the projects, work opportunities for the youth would be also provided at a cost of 79 million afghanis, the minister said.

Khost Governor Hukam Khan Habibi told the gathering that the government had not equally executed projects throughout Afghanistan during the past 14 years.

Khost provincial council head, Abdul Wali Wahidzai, said projects implemented under the National Solidarity Programme (NSP) were more effective.

Since the inception of NSP in 2006, up to 6,600 welfare projects costing $46 million have been executed in Khost.
