LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Tribal elders and provincial council members on Saturday acknowledged corruption and misconduct had declined in the appellant attorney’s office of southern Helmand province.

Speaking at a gathering, tribal elder Karim Khan Atal said corruption had been at peak in the vital department until recently but declined with the appointment of the new head.

Injustice and growing corruption within the judiciary was the main reason behind increasing insecurity and public sympathy with militants, he believed.

Due to a corrupt judicial system, people referred their cases to militants for solution and thus allowed insecurity to increase with each passing day.

A civil society group head Sardar Mohammad Hamdard said corruption had declined in Helmand to a great extent. He said earlier bribery had been a common trend people used to seek rapid resolution to their problems.

Fazal Sultan, the appellant attorney’s office chief, said he stressed the elimination of corruption since day one in office he assumed four months ago.

He said cases of every prisoner had been evaluated during the past four months. He claimed he would resign if corruption was proved in his department.
