98pc of police officers posts filled in Kandahar: Gen. Raziq

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Hundreds of police officers graduated from the training centre in southern Kandahar province on Monday, filling 98 percent vacancies of police officers in the province.

The graduation ceremony for the 478 police officers was attended by a number of security officials. Speaking on the occasion, Kandahar police chief Lf. Gen. Abdul Raziq said it was for the first time that such a large number of police officers were graduating in the province. With their graduation, he said the appointment of police officers was 98 percent completed.

He said the new officers would be appointed in Kandahar City, the provincial capital, and districts and their joining would have a positive impact on professionalism.  He said the process to appoint youth in the police force has been intensified and most of the recruits were educated individuals.  The police chief said previously they had to call educated officers for administrative related affairs from Kabul, but now that shortcoming had been overcome.

The training centre commander, Gen. Nasrullah Zarifi said the newly graduated 478 police officers were imparted training in professional skills for six months. He said the police had become more professional than they had been in the past, bringing improvement to security maintenance and police conduct with people.

He told the police officers that the people of Kandahar had suffered the most in the 14-year-old war in Afghanistan and they should be treated nicely and encouraged towards cooperation in maintaining security.

A young police officer, Abdul Samad, who graduated from the six-month training, told Pajhwok Afghan News he joined the police force after completing his high school. He said his motive to join the police was to serve the people and the country and win people’s hearts.

Thousands of police officers have earlier graduated from the training centre and they are serving in various parts of the province.
