GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): A new urban discipline unit, created at the police headquarters, has helped in preventing irregularities and the movement of undocumented vehicles in Ghazni City, an official said on Wednesday.

Provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Aminullah Amarkhel, told Pajhwok Afghan News the urban discipline unit was set up two weeks ago to check anomalies caused by people and security forces in Ghazni City.

“This unit removes tinted glasses, prevents unregistered vehicles from plying city roads and arresting the soldiers involved in harassing people or drug addiction,” he said.

He added that 10 special unit policemen had joined the new entity.“We had no personnel for the new unit, so I drew 25 personnel from other units and added 10 special police force personnel to it,” Amarkhel said.

The special police force personnel would stand up against powerful individuals who threatened the urban discipline unit, the police chief continued.

The unit would also search and recover the Ranger pick-ups seized by the militants during clashes with security forces, he said, suggesting the vehicles could be used in insurgent attacks.

About the achievement of the entity, he said: “This unit removes filmed glasses from 50 vehicles every day; it has also arrested six policemen who created problems in the city.”
