Feasibility study on Kandahar-Bamyan road soon

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Ministry of Public Works officials on Thursday said the feasibility study to construct a road between southern Kandahar and central Bamyan provinces would be started within a few days.

A Ministry of Public Works delegation visited Kandahar province as part of the feasibility study on the Kandahar-Bamyan road.

Abdul Qayum Arghoshi, who led the delegation, told reporters here the Ministry of Public Works planned to connect southern and northern provinces through a road network that would be extended from Kandahar to Bamyan.  

He said the Asian Development Bank (ADB)-funded project would be implemented by the Ministry of Public Works and the feasibility study in this regard would be started within a few days and would be completed in one year’s time.

The deputy governor of Kandahar, Abdul Ali Shamsi, expressed his happiness over the project and called a big project on the national level.

He said the project would have a positive impact on economy, security and trade in Kandahar, Uruzgan, Dai Kundi and Bamyan provinces.

He said the provincial government of Kandahar fully supported the project and would bring into use all available resources for completion of the road.

Shamsi said the feasibility study should be carried out with utmost care in order to avoid any problem in future.

He said people of areas where the road would pass should be provided work opportunities on the project and elders and influential figures of these areas should be consulted to ensure that private land was not affected.

He advised the visiting delegation to visit the Arghandab district in company of the Kandahar public works director and inspect the route.
