PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): A mortar shell hit a house in Charkh district of central Logar province on Tuesday, killing one person and injuring three others, all from the same family, the district chief said.
Khalilullah told Pajhwok Afghan News the mortar was fired during a clash between security forces and Taliban militants in Qala-i-Mirk locality of the district.
He said the early morning clash lasted three hours, with the security forces escaping unhurt.
He said the mortar shell fired by Taliban landed on a civilian home, killing a man and wounding three other members of his family. The wounded were evacuated to a hospital.
Syed Abbas, a risident of Qala-i-Mirk area said the clash broke out at 7:00am and ended at 11:00am on Tuesday. He said residents remained indoors during the clash. He said it was yet to be ascertained as to which side fired the mortar.
The Taliban have said nothing in this regard.
