ZARANJ (Pajhwok): In a fresh attack, nearly 200 school students were poisoned in Zaranj, the capital of southwestern Nimroz province, on Tuesday, an official said.

Public Health Director Dr. Noor Ahmad Sherzad told Pajhwok Afghan News the poisoned students, including girls, were enrolled at Shahid Naheed and Shahid Gul Makai Schools.

The students immediately fell unconscious after entering classrooms, he said, suggesting the pupils were poisoned with a gas.

Aged between eight and 16 years, the pupils were rushed to hospital for treatment and most of them were in stable condition, he added.

Ghafar, one of the students, said: “I smelt a gas as soon I entered my classroom. After a few minutes, I fell unconscious and don’t what happened later on.”

About a week ago, a hundred students were poisoned in a similar attack in Nimroz, but the authorities are yet to find any clue to the attackers.
