152 Afghan students being enrolled in Bangalore University

Manpreet Vohra, Indian Ambassador to Afghanistan, told a press conference here that India had been annually granting 1,000 scholarships to Afghan students and the process would continue until 2020.   

He said the 152 Afghan students would travel to India next week and would be enrolled in fields of business and administration, engineering, computer science, language and literature and others.

Vohra said Afghan students over the past 10 years had been benefiting from Indian scholarships and 7,000 of them had so far received graduation degrees from various universities of the country.

He said this was the first time Afghan students were being enrolled in one of the country’s oldest and great universities.  

More Afghan students in near future would be enrolled in Usmania, Hayerabad and Delhi universities, he added.  

The Ambassador told the Afghan students to avail the opportunity as much as they could and avoid leisure and enjoyment time and focus more on education.

He said the Afghan students were introduced to the Indian scholarships by the Afghan Ministry of Higher Education after participating in Kankor (University entry test).

He said the students had to play travel fares but expenses of their education and accommodation would be paid by the government of India.
