Female activists launch cleanliness drive in Jalalabad

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Female civil society activists on Saturday carried out a cleanliness campaign in Jalalabad City, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province.

The activists collected garbage from streets of the city during the campaign initiated by “Kor Khazina Adabi Bahir” or cultural movement of household women.

The association head, Muqadasi Ahmadzai, told Pajhwok Afghan News they wanted to practically teach the Jalalabad citizens how to keep the city clean.

“Nearly 30 members of our association took part in this drive to convey a clear message to the citizens to keep the city clean,” she said, calling on the municipality to prepare a plan for cleaning the city and involving people in cleanliness campaigns.

The activists conducted a similar drive a few days ago in the 3rd municipality district of the city and said they wanted to continue the process in future.

A volunteer, also a student at the Alaee high school, Maleeha, asked people to keep their city clean the way they kept their houses.

She said was proud of taking part in cleaning her city, asking shopkeepers and citizens to play their part in such campaigns.
