KABUL, a British newspaper reported on Friday.
On Thursday, British Defence Secretary Michael Fallon held talks with Afghan leaders during a surprise visit to Kabul, The Telegraph reported, citing well-placed defence sources.
The deployment of extra soldiers will likely join the British garrison of 450 in Kabul, according to the newspaper, which said the move risked the UK being pushed back into a war which has left more than 450 UK personnel dead.
Washington has urged allies, including Britain, to send more troops to Afghanistan to enable American troops to operate elsewhere in the country.
NATO, meanwhile, is said to be discussing the plan before NATO’s Warsaw Summit next month. “It’s not a decision, but it is something that has been considered and still is. What we all do as an alliance in 2017 is fluid.”
Britain has promised keeping its troops in Afghanistan until the end of this year, but the deployment is expected to be extended for at least another year.
