PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): A US drone strike killed eight Taliban insurgents and three civilians in the Azra district of central Logar province, an official and a public representative said on Saturday.
Salim Saleh, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the drone targeted a vehicle carrying Taliban militants in Spandus area between Azara and Hesarak districts last night. He said 11 militants onboard the vehicle were killed and the vehicle and weapons were destroyed.
But a member of the provincial council and resident of Azra district, Abdul Wakil, told Pajhwok Afghan News the dead included three civilians.
He said there were eight militants and three civilians on the vehicle and all of them were killed. He had no idea why the civilians were in the same vehicle.
The Ministry of Defense also confirmed the incident.
