KABUL (Pajhwok): Uzbekistan’s {resident, Islom Karimovhas said his country was ready to extend a railroad from its border to Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province.
A statement from the Presidential Palacesaid that Karimov expressed his willingness for the project during a meeting with his Afghan counterpart Ashraf Ghani in Tashkent.
They conferred on ways of boosting bilateral relations and execution of regional connectivity projects. The host leader called Uzbekistan and Afghanistan close friends.
Karimov said: “We support stability in Afghanistan; we are ready for cooperation in this regard, because Afghanistan has special importance to us.”Karimov showed readiness to extend the railway line to the Balkh capital.
Ghani thanked Uzbekistan for its hospitality and willingness to build the railroad.He said Afghanistan was eager to benefit from Uzbekistan’s experience in building transport routes.
