SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Unknown gunmen shot dead an elderly woman in the Khwaja Dokoh district of northern Jawzjan province, security officials said on Wednesday.
Jawzjan deputy police chief Abdul Hafiz Khashi told Pajhwok Afghan News that the 53-year-old woman was killed inside her home in Qazal Ataq village.
He said her name was Halima whose husband had died years ago. She was sleeping with her two daughters when unknown gunmen shot her.
The police official said no one had been arrested in connection with the murder, but an investigation had been launched.
Khashi said the family had no enmity with anyone and it remained unknown who killed her.
A resident of the village, Abdul Samad, said Halima was a calm and nice woman and she lived with her two daughters. “I don’t think she has any dispute with anyone. Who killed her and why, no one knows it. Even her daughters don’t know.”
Local residents said the assailants taking advantage of night darkness fled after burning the woman in her bed.
