GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Hundreds of tribal elders on Monday held a gathering in southeastern Pakta province to call for convening a loya jirga ‘to bring into order’ activities of the unity government.
Headed by tribal elder Pacha Khan Zadran, the gathering was participated by tribal elders, provincial council members and civil society activists.
Paktia deputy provincial council head Janat Khan Samkani said: “We have gathered to tell the people about the government’s performance and ask them how to jointly resolve issues.”
He said after the unity government formation, the country’s security situation had deteriorated and each government entity was 50/50 percent divided between the two leaders.
He said the president and the chief executive officer had appointed their people to government jobs without considering their capabilities.
Samkani said due to these issues, tribal elders and the people had agreed upon calling for a traditional loya lirga in order to find solutions.
Zadran said the day the unity government came to power, all government activities went into disorder.
He said in every ministry, department and embassies, half of the employees had been introduced by the president and the other half by the CEO.
He said efforts were being made by the two leaders to get their people appointed in the election bodies who could campaign and work for them in next elections.
“We want the government to convene a traditional Loya Jirga that could find a solution to the issues.”
However, a political analyst Noor Mohammad told Pajhwok Afghan News such gatherings were a futile practice.
“The incumbent government has completed half of its mandate, after this establishing a new system will be problematic.”
He said the government initially had some problems in completing the Cabinet and some other issues but now the government had made considerable progress in the fields of foreign policy and economic development and the regime should be supported.
