SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): A 65-year-old man has committed suicide after what an official said on Sunday “failing to provide food to his family” in Khwaja Do Koh district of northern Jawzjan province.
The governor’s spokesman, Mohammad Reza, told Pajhwok Afghan News the man, Tilabai, a resident of Faqirabad village of Khawaja Do Koh district, took the extreme step on Saturday, the day he could not earn money to purchase food for his family.
Police have launched an investigation into the case and more details would be disclosed after the investigation, he said.
Tilabai had no son and was a calm man who never harmed anybody, but he faced economic hardships, a resident of the village, Ghayasuddin, said.
“Tilabai committed suicide because of extreme poverty,” he said, adding the man left behind his poor family. After his death, area people provided cash and food to the remaining family, the resident said.
