KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghan government has ordered a commission to launch an investigation into the crash of a Pakistani helicopter in the Azra district of central Logar province.
Pakistan’s Mi-17 helicopter went down in Azra on last Thursday when the insurgents took hostage crewmembers, including former Pakistan military officers and a Russian citizen.
A statement from the Presidential Palace confirmed receiving a request from Pakistan to use the Afghan airspace for the flight of the helicopter to Uzbekistan for repairs and overhaul.
After registering specifications of the helicopter, the Afghanistan Civil Aviation Authority (ACAA) allowed the Punjab government’s helicopter to fly only for the repair purpose to Uzbekistan.
A meeting chaired by President Ashraf Ghani was held at the Palace to discuss the latest information regarding the incident.
A delegation was appointed to comprehensively investigate the emergency landing of the helicopter and figure out whether it had the same specifications as the ACAA had received.
A committee was also tasked to review existing laws and regulations to immediately bridged possible gaps and present a comprehensive plan for the prevention of such incidents in the future.
