GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): The police chief for southern Ghazni province has submitted his resignation to the Ministry of Interior (MoI), but the move is yet to be accepted, an official said on Monday.
Ghazni police spokesman Fahim Amerkhel told Pajhwok Afghan News that the provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Aminullah Amerkhel, had dispatched his resignation to MoI, but there was no response from the ministry as yet.
MoI spokesman Sedique Sediqui confirmed Amerkhel’s resignation and said the ministry had not yet decided Amerkhel’s fate. He said Amarkhel was bound to discharge his duty as police chief until the MoI took a decision.
Amerkhel refused to talk to the media about what prompted his resignation. He had earlier alleged that the MoI was unjust in decisions and promotions were sold against money in the ministry.
He had also said that the MoI, the National Security Council and the Presidential Palace had politicised the police which was no longer a neutral force.
