SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): A Taliban commander for northern provinces has joined the peace process along with his 11 associates in Jawzjan province, an official said.
Qari Baz Mohammad, a Taliban leader in the north for eight years, and his supporters also surrendered their weapons to the provincial authorities.
“As head of the Taliban commission for the five Northern provinces, I was primarily tasked with organising attacks on foreign forces,” Baz Mohammad said.
But from now on, he pledged doing all he could for peace, progress and prosperity of the country. “I will also invite other fighters to quit the insurgency,” he promised.
Meanwhile, Governor Lutfullah Azizi so far 760 Taliban had joined the peace process in Jwzjan so far. With the surrender of rebel group, highway security would considerably improve, he hoped.
