KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani has suspended police officials of the 9th police district of capital Kabul from duties during a surprise visit, a statement said on Monday.
The statement from the Presidential Palace said President Ghani, as part of observation of civil and military organizations, unexpectedly visited the 9th police district at around 11:00pm on Sunday night.
During the visit, a number of the district police officials were found absent from duty in a violation rules and regulations of police districts.
Ghani told the absent officials who later appeared for duty “it isn’t the way of serving people because everyday crimes such as kidnapping and robberies occur and these are because of your irresponsible attitude.”
The president stressed police should be public servant and awake all the night so people could sleep peacefully.
The president suspended the 9th police district chief and other officials who were absent for negligence in performing duties.
Ghani directed the Ministry of Interior to investigate the issue at the earliest possible and report back to the Presidential Palace for further measures.
