KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Local security officials on Tuesday said 10 Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers have been killed mysteriously in northeastern Kunduz province.
Sher Aziz Kamawal, commander of Spinzar Police Zone in Kunduz, told Pajhwok Afghan News the killings took place in the ZakhelAkhundan area of the provincial capital on Monday night.
He said 12 ANA soldiers manned the post. Two of them allegedly drugged their other colleagues at midnight and then killed them all.
The two soldiers escaped along with weapons and ammunition after the incident, he said, adding there was no information about the location of escapees.
Brig. Gen. Ikramuddin Same, commander of the 20th ANA Division, confirmed the incident and said an investigation was underway.
He said the insurgents attacked the ANA post last night but it was unclear whether the soldiers were killed by their colleagues or the attackers.
But a security official, who wished not to be named, claimed a dozen soldiers were killed in the incident.
Meanwhile, Taliban spokesmanZabihullah Mujahid said 13 ANA soldiers were killed in a militant attack on their post in Kunduz City on Monday night.
